Colossians: Living in Christ.
The book of Colossians is a letter from an imprisoned Apostle Paul, to a newish and vibrant church in a Roman city with an illustrious Greek history. Yet, despite how well the church is doing, they still have their problems and they still struggle with false teachings. Thus, Paul’s letter was timely for the Christians in Colossae – who had to contend with Gnosticism, Greek philosophy, Judaistic legalism, angel worship and asceticism – and timeless for all Christians throughout the history of the Church. Today, we have our own unique mix of false teachings and influences that can pull us away from pursuing God. Throughout this series we will explore Paul’s instructions to the Colossians, and glean this wisdom that still applies to us today. Specifically, we will explore how to live as a community that is characterized by thanksgiving-joyfulness in response to Jesus’ victory on the Cross, and God’s presence in our lives. In other words, we learn from Paul how to be a church that is “in Christ.”
