Ruth: A Tale of Providence and Faithfulness
The book of Ruth is a beautifully crafted narrative that not only reveals the sublime longsuffering and obedience that characterizes the Christian faith but also serves as an important and unexpected turning in the political and redemptive history of Israel. A tale that might at first glance seem like a minor family drama or a fun side adventure along with the grand history of Israel, turns out to be a monumental moment in the history of God's providential plan for redemption. As the tale draws us into a strange world of tribal customs and foreign norms, we learn about practices that very much unlike those that we are familiar with, such as levirate marriages, patriarchal land redemption, and the practice of gleaning. As we explore this story we will be asking, what do these customs, rules, and laws reveal to us about redemption, grace, obedience, love, fidelity, and faithfulness? Please join us as we encounter a timeless tale that will help us understand God and his character in new, different, and valuable ways.
