Kid's Church

Welcome to Kid's Church!

At Cornerstone we want to value and nurture the children God has entrusted to us and value them as core members of our community. For this reason, we have a dedicated Kid's Church programme which hopes to lead them to know Christ more and learn what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

We have 4 groups which meet on Sunday morning to worship and learn about God together. Throughout the year the children get to hear the stories of faith from different people from our church family during 'Cookies and Chat'. We also give children the gift of Scripture Memory as we commit God's word to our hearts and minds during our 'Bible and Bagels' time.

During the service, the children can play at the back of the hall in the designated creche area.
Big Creche
babes - preschool

Creche is a play based group. Children have the opportunity to build relationships with
one another and their leaders. They also have a group circle time with a Bible story, songs, craft and prayer.

JAM
Primary 1- Primary 2

In JAM, the children start by playing together and building relationships with one another and their leaders. Then they have a group time with a Bible lesson, songs and prayer.
We work through the Old & New Testaments telling the story of God's plan for His people and what it means for us today. We frame our studies in the New Testament around five key questions; Who is Jesus?, What is the church?, Who is God?, Who is the Holy Spirit? and What is a Christian?

CK4C (Cornerstone Kids 4 Christ)
Primary 3 - Primary 4

CK4C gain a broad Bible overview by working through the 'What's in the Bible' (DVD) Curriculum. They explore what a Christian perspective is on various school subjects (Art, Maths, Music etc.)

Explorers
Primary 5 - Primary 7

Explorers create their own diary record of the books in the Bible by taking notes from the 'Bible Project' overview videos as well as an in-depth study in the Gospel of Luke. They also reflect on core ideas around Identity using a curriculum developed by 'Faith in Kids'.

Kids' Church Leader: Michelle Redfern

Michelle is married to Dave and they have three children, Lucy, James and Elizabeth. She loves teaching and being with children and feels privileged to prepare lessons to help the children know Jesus more.  She also enjoys working part time as a primary school teacher.

We have a large team of dedicated people who work together to support the children in our church.

Looking after the youngest members of Cornerstone - Our Five Circles of Care

The circles of care represent the different measures we take to care for the youngest members of our
community.

You can read the United Free Church Safeguarding Policy here. We adhere to this policy as a member of the United Free Church of Scotland.

The five circles of care:

1.  PVG Membership
All staff/leaders have background checks carried out and become members of the PVG Scheme (Protection of Vulnerable Groups Act 2007)

2.  Risk Assessment
Reasonable measures are taken to look after the general health & safety of young people in our care through Risk Assessment exercises for each venue where activities take place.

3. Guidelines
All staff/leaders agree to carry out their duties in line with guidelines that are tailored to their role.

4. Training
All staff/leaders are provided with ongoing training appropriate to their role.

5. Supervision
All staff/leaders are provided with ongoing support and supervision through a designated supervisor.

Concerns or Questions?
The main contact person for reporting or querying child protection matters is the Safeguarding Coordinator*. In their absence, matters should be brought to any Pastoral Staff Assistant, Senior Pastor or a Senior Children's Work Leader, who will in turn bring the matter to the attention of the Safeguarding Coordinator at the earliest opportunity.

If a person is for any reason uncomfortable directly approaching the Safeguarding Coordinator then they are welcome to take their concern to any Pastoral Staff Assistant or the Senior Pastor.
