Leviticus: Drawing Closer to Holiness

If it’s possible say that a book of the Bible is unpopular, then few books could be considered more unpopular than Leviticus. As a manuscript about priestly and tabernacle procedures, on the surface the reading is quite dry and lacking in drama. Plus, it contains a lot of rules. Some of these rules make sense to us as modern readers and some do not. Some rules seem abstract or silly, and some might even be offensive to us today.
Yet, Leviticus is about much more than just the procedures and rules. The book of Leviticus reveals much about holiness and God’s character. The role of the Levites and the underlining practical point of the book of Leviticus, is purification, or making God’s people holy, so that they could come near the presence of their Holy God. As we make our way through Leviticus we will be learning about holiness and the covenantal ways God sanctifies his people in His image.
